A Homeward Practice

Sacred Remembering

Receiving the gift, carrying forward what gives life.

Set aside ten quiet minutes. You may want a journal nearby. Remembering is not pretending the past was perfect. It is receiving what gave life, naming what needs to mature, and choosing what you want to carry forward with Jesus.

  1. Arrive

Let your shoulders soften. Take one slow breath. Remember that God is already present with you and within your story.

    Pause for three breaths.
  2. Remember

Bring to mind one person, place, practice, or moment through which faith first felt real, safe, or beautiful. Do not force an answer. Let one memory come.

What do you notice - a face, a room, a song, a feeling?
  3. Notice

Ask gently: What gift did I receive? What image of God came with it? What still gives life? What may need to grow or become more honest?

Write one or two sentences, without editing yourself.
  4. Offer

Thank God for the gift. Release what no longer serves love. Ask Jesus for grace to carry forward what is true, life-giving, and freely chosen.

You might pray: “Thank you for what brought me here. Lead me into a faith I can freely inhabit.”

Try this for seven days.

Each day, remember one gift and write one line: “Thank you for...” The aim is not nostalgia. It is a more conscious, grateful, and lived faith.
